The population of Hawaii has steadily increased by 9.3% from 1990, so currently there are 1,211,537 people according to the 2000 census. This number is still increasing. 75% of the population lives on the island of Oahu. A main reason for this is that the biggest city, Honolulu, which is also the capital of Hawaii, is located there. The center of Honolulu is industrial, while the next largest city, Waikiki is primarily a tourist city.
